My name
is Michelle Franko, I co-own and operate Blue Moon Kennels
with Lee Fesperman. We are located in historic Kannapolis,
North Carolina
- about 14 miles north of Charlotte. Kannapolis is rich in
our nations history - both past and present. Cabarrus County
is
home of the Reed Gold Mine and the Rocky River
Presbyterian Church where Revolutionary War
patriots are buried in the cemetery. We are
surrounded by beautiful lush green hills, fragrant flowers
and the roar
of Lowe's Motor Speedway - yes, this is NASCAR heaven! Better
still, a brand new NHRA track is scheduled to open September
of 2008! Hold on to your hats race fans!!
The American Staffordshire Terrier is placed in the Mastiff
group of most Kennel Clubs in the USA. The AmStaff is
know as a working dog and is famous for their
strength and their ability to pull tremendous
weight. Their body, stocky - like a body builder - weight
can range anywhere from 37 to 90 pounds.
Now, we all know the bad rap that AmStaffs have received over
the years - a lot of people feel that they are
evil, ferocious dogs -- not true!! AmStaffs,
as well as Pitts are fearless, loyal and willing to please.
They are very people-friendly, which is why it is wise not
to pen
up your AmStaff outside for people to see; because of their
good nature and their people-friendly ways they are often stolen.
Why do the majority of the people think that they are mean
- because they hear about the 'dog fights'. These
beautiful dogs are trained to be that way. They
are starved into submission and do what they have to
do to survive.
I was introduced to my first AmStaff in 2003, when my Misha
- whom had been with me for 15 years - crossed over.
Carter's Face (named for the last name of his
breeder and the look on his face) who came from
Michigan, enterd my life and I was smitten by his tenderness
and strength.
Face carried a top weight of some 70 pounds, ran like the
wind and was the best thing that could have come into my life
at that time.
He hails from a very long line of Champion and Grand Champion
weight pullers.
Then came Bost's E - whom we call Rosie. She is a beautiful
Buckskin AmStaff and is quite swift on here feet herself. Rosie's
lineage is also
laden with Champions and Grand Champions. She has been a
wonderufl addition to our home and our lives.
Notice that I say "home". Our dogs are like members
of the family. There are no outdoor kennels
on the property. Blue Moon Kennels sits on just about
an acre of land that is entirely fenced in and
the dogs are free to run and play as they wish. At night
everyone comes into the house to spend the night - even the
puppies have their own room.
As time has moved on Face has left us and Rosie has passed
on her breeding skills to her daughter, Miracle -
a stocky brindle, built like Face. Miracle,
and her chosen man Shadow, have given us 13 puppies
with their first litter! We are anxiously awaiting the
next.... Plesse see our Availibility Page to see what puppies
we have.
Our puppies are wormed with Pyrantyl Pamoate at 2, 4 and 6
weeks of age. At 6 weeks of age they make their first
visit to the vet, Dr. Scott Vaughan at China
Grove Animal Hospital - where I have worked
since June of 2004. com). At their first visit they receive
an exam, get checked for worms and get their first distemper/hepatitis/parvo/parainfluenza
virus (dhppv) vaccine. Two
weeks later, at 8 weeks, they come back for their second
exam, check for worms and second dhppv.
When they are 12 weeks old - hopefully they
are sold by then, but if not - they return for their 3rd
visit where they get their 3rd exam
in the series, again checked for worms, their
3rd dhppv and their kennel cough vaccine. If I have them
at 16 weeks of age we will return
for their 4th visit of the series and they will
get their exam, their last check for worms, dhppv and their
first rabies vacccine. Their last parvo vaccine comes at 20 weeks.
Lee and I hope you have enjoyed our explanation of how
we operate our Kennel and we hope
that you visit our site often. Please call us if you
would like to come and visit our Kennel and see our puppies,
Dams and Sires. We look forward to meeting you.
